A two-way mirror, also known as a one-way mirror or a semi-transparent mirror, is a specialized type of mirror with unique optical properties that allow it to function both as a mirror and a transparent panel. When viewed from the front, it appears as a regular mirror, reflecting light and displaying the observer's reflection. However, from the back side, individuals can see through the mirror to the other side, much like looking through a transparent glass pane. This effect is achieved by controlling the brightness of light on either side of the mirror. When one side is brightly lit, the mirror reflects light, while the darker side allows light to pass through, enabling observers on the dim side to view the scene behind the mirror.
Two-way mirrors are commonly used in specialized settings such as observation rooms, police stations, prisons, and other facilities where one-way visibility is desired.
